The Maintenance Technician reports to the Supervisor, Maintenance at our penicillin site in Markham, ON. This role will perform all regular, preventive maintenance activities and will respond to any mechanical or equipment issues that occur on the production floor. You will ensure your work is carried out in a timely manner with an appropriate sense of urgency to reduce non-productive downtime, and you will recognize the impact of downtime on productivity, efficiency and cost of Site Production operations.


In this position, you will be involved with the installation, modification, troubleshooting and maintenance/repair of Site equipment, utilities, systems and or facilities. You will use your mechanical and equipment knowledge to detect and investigate variances in performance and will make recommendations to improve performance. You will also coordinate or initiate purchase orders for parts, equipment or spare parts to ensure inventory is on hand as needed.


You will execute qualification and/or validation protocols for the installation, commissioning and/or operation of equipment, utilities, systems and / or facilities. You will also prepare detailed information and design specifications for new equipment for recommendation to Supervisor, Maintenance.


You will use your attention to detail to complete required compliance documentation, log books, timesheets, etc. when executing duties. You will also complete and maintain current training and awareness of related legislated codes, EH&S procedures, SOPs and GMP requirements and complete ongoing training to maintain certification and to respond to technology change at the Site, as well as improving knowledge of facilities, systems and equipment. You will respond to “off hours” emergencies, as required and be on scheduled “on call” rotation, as well as, provide essential services coverage during site shutdowns and Statutory Holidays. All of your work will be performed in accordance with established SOPs, GMP guidelines and EH&S policies.

Hours of Work:

Sat and Sun:  6:30am  to 7:00pm

Two days during the week:  6:30am to 3pm (flexible on which days i.e. M/T or Th/F)


  • An Ontario Trades Certificate or College Diploma in a related Maintenance discipline.
  • Non-Canadian educational credentials must be assessed as equivalent.
  • Accreditation/certification in Electrical Discipline (Electrician).
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years related Electro-Mechanical experience.
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal legislation and codes.
  • Read and understand engineering drawings, schematics, specifications and technical manuals.
  • Write work order reports, maintenance or repair specifications, and produce diagrams outlining design concepts.
  • Familiarity with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures and the ability to rely on past experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals by finding practical solutions.
  • Applied technical skills, knowledge and experience to identify, recommend and implement improvements to equipment, utilities, systems and facilities.
  • Ability to provide in service and training to Maintenance and/or Packaging Operators to perform trouble shooting and minor repairs. Ability to work in a collaborate capacity and independently with limited supervision with a focus on continuous improvement.
